Constant Lovers

Constant Lovers are tragically not a Jonathan Richman covers act fronted by Stranger books editor Paul Constant—so, if that's what you were hoping for, sorry (and we'll see what we can do about making that idea a reality). However, if what you were hoping for was a raw, pummeling rock 'n' roll band marked by drunk-staggering distorted bass grooves, subtly adventurous drumming, feedback-laced guitars shredded to within an inch of their life, and red-faced throat-ravaging screaming, then you are in a whole lot of luck. The five songs posted on the band's website suggest that tonight's show should get off to a solid start of slow-mo headbanging and intermittently frenzied flailing about. Headliners the Murder City Devils used to be some band or something—no one really knows. ERIC GRANDY - The Stranger

Mongrel Blood

Some friends raising a ruckus: Mongrel Blood is Spencer Moody (Triumph of Lethargy, Murder City Devils), Cameron Elliott (Battle Hymns) and Eric Fisher (Constant Lovers).

Koko and the Sweetmeats

KOKO is the work of South African musician Garett van der Spek. Playing to drunks in the smoky bars of burning hotels since age 12 he has come a long way. Since dabbling in the dark arts of cover bands and pop rock, he has moved on to forming super groups and launching a solo career named after a gorilla. Collaborating with everyone from Afro-Jazz A cappella groups, Hip-Hop acts to performing at punk festivals. The KOKO project has been alive now for three years during which a full length album AS THE CROW FLIES and 3 EP's, GHOST VOCAL, CANNIBAL ANIMAL and THE INDESTRUCTIBLE SOUND OF KOKO have been released independently. The KOKO moniker was born out of necessity when Garett relocated from Durban, South Africa to Seattle, USA in 2007. Since then he has been living the american dream. peace.
