Loud and erratic, Smile for Diamonds delivers a heated show every time. Hailing from Colorado and New Zealand; this 4 piece came together in the summer of 2009. All from different backgrounds with different influences they are determined to bring a complete performance. Smile for Diamonds' self titled and self released EP will be released digitally in February 2010 and physical copies will be ready some time in March/April. Recorded in downtown Seattle at Orbit Audio and mastered at Tone Proper studios, this EP offers 5 songs based around the effects of losing a loved one and moving on with out them. For fans of melodic, shoe-gaze indie rock that can often get heavy and quite technical. Committed to their music, this quartet brings a passion that is rare in today's music scene. In 2010 Smile for Diamonds will establish their presence here in the northwest and then take their show on the road.
At the Spine is a high energy rock/punk rock/indie rock band from Seattle, WA. The demo for the first album, The Curriculum is Never Neutral, was recorded at 151st & Broadway in NYC in 2001. Work on the actual album began in Seattle in the summer in the summer of 2002 and earlier experimentations with the band stretch back to as far as 1992 in Portland, OR.
At the Spine loves and lives to play live music. We believe in the power of music. We try to make great music and put on sincere and energetic live shows. We also try to do what we can to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable planet.
We write about what we have experienced and seen in the world. Sometimes it is about politics, and sometimes it is about relationships. Sometimes we are raging against something, like war or imperialism, and sometimes we are celebrating something in solidarity with the masses of the world. Sometimes we cry tears of sorrow and sometimes tears of joy.
We have played hundreds of shows across the U.S. and a bit in the E.U. since 2002 and released four critically acclaimed albums.
2003 The Curriculum is Never Neutral
2005 First Day of Spring
2006 Sonic Resistance
2008 Vita
Music has inspired us, moved us, and kept us alive though the good and the bad times, so we are doing our best to return the favor to all those that have come before us, and all those that will come after us. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Stereo Sons are a three piece indie-rock band, active in the Pacific Northwest since 2008. The band was brought together by Chris Klepac, a transplant from the midwest college-rock mecca of Columbia, MO. Chris had a plan to harness his abrasive, noisy post-punk pop songs to a rhythm section that balanced those elements with deep, tight, danceable grooves, creating a sound that hearkened back to trailblazers like Fugazi, Gang of Four and P.I.L, while searching forward into what a true 21st century American rock band could become.
That idea became a reality when Chris met up with Mike O’Doherty, Rock School drum instructor and former member of local psychedelic jazz favorites Atma. Mike’s technically sophisticated approach and embrace of non-Western drum styles catapulted Stereo Sons into their unique niche, as the band began to create a regional buzz with their hypnotic, kinetic and unpredictable live shows. They spent 2009 gigging around the PNW and perfecting the songs of information-age experience that would populate their first full-length LP (more on the album below).
After a tumultuous summer of lineup uncertainty following the release of their first full-length album, Chris and Mike found a perfect counterpart in Carlos Tulloss, an accomplished rock bassist and longtime fixture of the Seattle jazz and funk scenes. Carlos has pushed the band to new levels of both precision and experimentation.
Stereo Sons are just getting started – their music is constantly evolving, and they are preparing songs for a second album while pushing their live touring circuit beyond the PNW. 2011 will see them bringing the chaotic beauty and musical futurism of Stereo Sons to California, the Midwest, and beyond.
In early 2010, the band met up with veteran producer Conrad Uno at his legendary Egg Studios to record the tracks that would become Our Own Devices. The album was recorded and mixed in three days at Egg, mastered by Floyd Reitsma at RFI, and self-released by the band – the initial print run has nearly sold out in less than six months.
