Harlowe and the Great North Woods began writing original material during the winter of 2009, while members were traveling with various other musical projects. In the spring of 2010, we began to record our first collection of songs on a tape machine obtained from a goodwill. The tracks were recorded on this machine in various locations, from a childhood home in Los Angeles, to an apartment downtown Portland, to recording engineer Tyler Hawkins' woodshed studio in the orchards of northern California. The tape tracks were then compiled and mixed by Scott Barwick at the Origami Lounge.
Since then, Harlowe and the Great North Woods has been playing shows locally in Portland in support of our new self-titled EP that was released with the help of Zach Zeller and the Around Town Collective
The Popular Monsters coagulated from the ashes of the indie pop sensation I Like Danger?, as well as the failure of Patrick's solo projects to remain remotely solo. After playing several shows as a two-piece acoustic ensemble, Patrick and Sue recruited long-time collaborator and musical guru Rob Anderson as a drummer, plugged in their instruments, and the Popular Monsters (as we know them today) were born!
