Dyme Def is a Seattle based hip hop trio, founded in 2006 and composed of rappers Fearce Villain, S.E.V., and Brainstorm. Bean One is the primary beat producer for the group, but MC Brainstorm makes the occasional beat as well, although he is also a recognized MC, being a past champion of the Red Bull Beat Battle in 2007.
Hello from Hypatia Lake. For those of you unfamiliar with this project, Hypatia Lake is a fictitious community and the songs revolve around the lives of the characters of town. On our first album, “Your Universe, Your Mind”, the listener was introduced to such character as the lonely cowboy archetype of Jeremiah Freud, The Omnipotent Narrator, and the rebellious Candy Factory workers. The sophomore release, “..and we shall call him Joseph”, played out as a chronological set of scenes as Joseph Bigsby (the instigator of the aforementioned factory rebellion) lay dying of the Candy Factory’s floor.
The songs have ranged from small and pretty spaces to all out noise and rock abandon, with comparisons being drawn to My Bloody Valentine, Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips and Pink Floyd among others. We have had the pleasure to share the stage with the likes of BRMC, Dirty Three, M83, Jennifer Gentle, Legendary Pink Dots, Ambulance LTD, Dead Meadow, Swervedriver, High Violets, The Upsidedown, Spindrift to name a few.
That being said, our latest offering, “Angels and Demons, Space and Time”, catches us at our most intimate and most experimental moments. Recorded/Engineered by Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, Sun City Girls), the album captures the quality and raw appeal that comes alongside a band playing together in a live setting. Previous sonic explorations relied upon massive amounts of sonic chemistry, hours in the studio and years to produce. This time around, we wanted to simplify our approach, and just try our best to make great songs. We enjoyed this process, and we hope you will too.
