A fem blitz on old-school cock rock.
Bad-boy swagger, macho posturing and drug-fueled rock are embodied in the testosterone-fueled music of Aerosmith.
But fast-forward 30 years and you’ll find the toxic twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry -- along with the rest of the band – are alive and well in the mostly-female band Dream On.
“It’s chicks performing cock rock,” says Jen Ayers, the lead singer of Dream On, which breathes new life into the throbbing classics of Aerosmith. “This is a fun twist on hard rock.”
Originally formed in 2005 under the name Sweet Emotion, the Seattle-based band now features Laurie Miller on lead guitar, Faith Stankevich on drums, Amy Stolzenbach on bass, and Ayers’ husband Graham McNeill on rhythm guitar.
“People go kind of crazy,” says Ayers, a classically-trained pianist and lead singer of the band Honey Tongue. “On one hand, it’s kind of sad that people are surprised that women can be competent musicians. On the other hand, it’s satisfying to let people know we exist.”
