Just Like Vinyl was formed in the spring of 2010 by former Fall Of Troy frontman Thomas Erak and guitarist/vocalist Jake Carden of Seattle band The Filthy None. Henry Batts, a long-time friend and crew member of The Fall Of Troy was enlisted to play bass. The three began writing and rehearsing together preceding The Fall Of Troy's final tour that same spring, and demos for "It's Over" and "No Friend Of Mine" were cut at Dynasty Studios in Seattle with Thomas playing drums. After Thomas and Henry returned from the tour, the group immediately continued writing and rehearsing with drummer Jay Beaman, formerly of the band Schoolyard Heroes. With 6 songs written, and recordings on the way, Just Like Vinyl began booking shows for the summer and fall of 2010.
A new band from Jeff Angell (Post Stardom Depression, The Missionary Position) and Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Tuatara).
The Walking Papers is a new band formed by Jeff Angell and Barrett Martin, and based in Seattle, WA. With a mutual love for the Delta Blues, Classic Rock, and the more interesting and original American songwriters, Jeff and Barrett decided to try a collaboration that harnessed both of their musical talents and their album producing experience. They also invited some of their exceptional musician friends to come down to the studio and sit in, and the album features special appearances by Duff McKagan on Bass, Mike McCready on Guitar Solos, Benjamin Anderson on Keyboards, Dave Carter on Trumpet, and Ed Ulman on Trombone. The Walking Papers debut album will be released worldwide on Sunyata Records on August 21st, 2012. Select shows and tour dates will be announced soon.
When the truth is hidden and what we see and hear is controlled by whom we’ve given control… This is Blackout Media.
The dramatic rock of Blackout Media delivers a personal truth of love, loss, politics and religion. No soap box or false proclamations here, just what we believe and feel. That being said... we just want to share our art with you.
Blending such influences as QOTSA, Jeff Buckley, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Cure, Jane’s Addiction, Johnny Cash, Prince, Leonard Cohen and many more, Blackout Media takes you on an emotionally charged dark trip. The soundscape holds you while the naked croon of Heath Bauer’s voice tells you a story. Whether happy, sad, or abstract symbolism, the listener is left...... well, that’s for you to decide.
Blackout Media is…
Heath Bauer: Vox/Guitar/Songs
Dan Schmidt: Bass/Keys/Vox/Engineer
Alex Mortland: Guitar/Keys/Tings
Casey Brookbush: Drums/Percussion/Art
Native to the northwest, Heath & Casey (The Oswald Effect) have created music with each other for over a decade. In late 2011 they made an unintentional decision to write and jam with each other again. Starting with acoustic ideas Heath had written over the past few years, it didn’t take long for Heath & Casey to arrange those ideas into something with depth and purpose. With the help of Dan “Dano” Schmidt (Flowmotion, Freedom) on bass/vox/keys, the BOM hit the studio and stage. Add Alex Mortland (Othello & The Hipknotics, Sambusa) on guitar/keys/tings, and they soon found themselves with a dark, resonating and intriguing band, which they are motivated and compelled to share.
Blackout Media is currently performing in Seattle (and surrounding area) clubs. Look for their debut album “The Beginning Again” on Golden Octopus Records Fall of 2012.
